New York Times media columnist David Carr tackled the controversy over VVM's Backpage.com in last Sunday's paper, reporting on demands from a group of clergy that the company shutter all adult ads on its popular classifieds website. Noting that the mainstream media--in particular, the nation's most popular cable TV channels and websites--is awash in sexually explicit material, Carr questioned the wisdom of singling out Backpage, noting, "...[VVM owners Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey] are taking their own version of a principled stand. And just because it aligns with their business interests doesn't mean it isn't valid."
